Mental Health

Mental health care in Wakefield is delivered by professional staff located in 5 areas. The teams are located at:

Gawler Community Health Centre and can be contacted by telephoning [08] 8521 2080

Tanunda in the Barossa valley and can be contacted by telephoning Pfeifer House on [08] 8563 0690

Clare at the Community Health Centre, they can be contacted by telephoning [08] 8842 6500

Wallaroo Community Health Centre on [08] 8823 0270

Minlaton Community Health Centre on telephone [08] 8853 2308

It is recommended that where possible people see their General Medical Practitioner before telephoning any of the mental health teams.

CONSUMER INVOLVEMENT

Mental Health within Wakefield is informed by consumer opinion regarding the services offered. Consumers have formed the Wakefield Mental Health Consumer Advisory Group and this meets on the third Wednesday of each month at Riverton Hospital 10:00 - 12 midday.

There are also various consumer groups throughout the Region and currently comprise:

"The Station" located at Wallaroo. This is an incorporated Community Mental Health Centre managed by local consumers. It is located at the old police station in Wallaroo. Contact can be made by either attending or telephoning [08] 8823 4181. Alternatively the Station can be contacted by e-mail at thestation@yp.connect.au

Chat and Chomp located at Tanunda and is a group for people who enjoy companionship, talking, sharing, cooking, music and getting about. The group meet at the White House, on Second Street, Nuriootpa, each Thursday between 11am to 2 pm. Contact can be made by either attending the group in Nuriootpa or by telephoning [08] 8563 0690

Chatters located at Kapunda and are a group of consumers who meet each month at the Day Centre of the Kapunda Hospital. Contact with the group can be made by telephoning [08] 8563 0690

Several other groups are currently developing in other areas within the region.
